Thank you for visiting the
Public Works webpage. Public Works is the underlying foundation and
infrastructure of the City of Leavenworth. It is the workforce that
provides the daily services which are necessary to the health and
functionality of our community. Its employees are ready to perform
duties under the most extreme weather conditions any day of the week,
including holidays and weekends, at any time of day or night. It is
comprised of several divisions that perform specialized duties.
Our Water Plant Division supplies water to the City and its urban
growth area. Our Utility Division maintains the water distribution
system, making sure water is piped non-stop to each and every customer.
Our Wastewater Treatment Plant processes the City’s effluent materials,
keeping our city clean and healthy. The Utility Maintenance Division
maintains the effluent collection system that pipes the effluent
materials to our Wastewater Treatment Plant.
Our Refuse Division collects residential and commercial materials
that are discarded and transports the materials to local landfills or
transfer stations. The city also has a cardboard recycling system that
is a free service to citizens and businesses within the city limits. We
provide a drop site for cardboard at the large green building on the
corner of Commercial Street and 14th Street. The Refuse Division
collects commercial cardboard on its commercial refuse collection route.
The Utility Maintenance Division performs many other city-wide
services such as street sweeping, traffic control, snow and ice control,
road / street / alley, street lighting, swimming pool, sidewalk, parking
facility, storm drainage, and park maintenance. The Division also meets
the needs of festival and event coordinators. A Purchasing Division
works to supply the workforce with its equipment and supplies.
Public Works provides another service that is very important to our
community. It not only provides services for the functioning of the
community on a daily basis, it also provides perpetual care at Mountain
View Cemetery for those who have made the City of Leavenworth their
final resting place.
Inquiries related to Public Works can be placed with City Hall at (509)
548-5275 from 9:00 AM to 5:00 PM, Monday through Friday. The City Hall
staff will direct your inquiries to the appropriate divisions and
division personnel to address your questions or to hear your comments
and suggestions. It is Public Works pleasure and privilege to serve the
community of Leavenworth.
